White Rose Vets 5 - 2 Methley United Vets![]()
After seeing off Kirkstall in the first round of the Inter-County Cup, Methley Vets made the pilgrimage to Huddersfield to face White Rose, runaway leaders of Division One and a side boasting several ex semi-pros who had been only too happy to remind everyone beforehand that they had won their league approximately 24 times out of the last 26, but who's counting (they are). Methley, meanwhile, spent the build-up dealing with the far more important matters of who was driving, who was getting picked up where, and which pub would be visited afterwards. Priorities.![]()
Before kick-off, White Rose appeared extremely friendly with the referee: hand-shakes, chuckles, Christmas card exchanges and that warmth carried seamlessly into the match itself. If a White Rose player fell over, appealed, or simply looked mildly inconvenienced, a free kick generally followed.![]()
Inside five minutes, the White Rose non-league journeyman striker hurled himself to the floor in the box. Needless to say, penalty given. Up stepped a fully grown man wearing tracky bottoms, yes, tracky bottoms in an adult game of football, who converted for 1–0. ![]()
Methley keeper Heppy then produced a string of comfortable saves from long-range efforts before a through ball, only five yards offside (minimum), was waved on and Tracky Bottoms made it 2–0..![]()
To their credit, Methley didn’t fold. They played some lovely football and deservedly pulled one back when a ball from the right was controlled superbly by Brent, who swivelled and finished with real class. 2–1 at half-time and game very much on.![]()
The second half saw Methley continue to play the better football, with Tom, Josh and Tucker bossing midfield and refusing to be intimidated by snoods or exaggerated reputations. But football, like life, is cruel. White Rose were awarded another penalty after the referee missed a couple of fouls at a corner, but wasn't allowed to miss a handball on the goal line with strong appeals from White Rose. Penalty. 3–1.![]()
Despite more good work from Heppy, White Rose hit Methley twice on the break to make it 5–1, both decent finishes it must be said.![]()
Methley had the final say when Brent raced onto a through ball and finished coolly to make it 5–2. Justice? No. Effort? Absolutely.![]()
Well played Methley on a mild night in Huddersfield. Unfortunate decisions. One bloke in tracky bottoms. Another in a snood.![]()
Methley Vets go again after the Christmas break in their quest for promotion from Leeds league Div 2.

MATCH REPORT - 14/12/2025.
Methley Lions U11s V Polonia Yorkshire. ![]()
Today the Lions travelled to Polonia.![]()
The boys throughout the game played well, making use of the knowledge and skills that they have learnt during training. ![]()
The first half the boys seemed a little intimidated by the opposition however the second half they came out ready and prepared. ![]()
The logistics of play was set out well, with the boys being able to distribute the ball to each other, setting up some good opportunities however just falling short. They didn’t allow these moment to knock them down and kept battling through which paid off with Faeley scoring a trivela. ![]()
The boy’s defence was well orchestrate and they showed pure dedication to ensure that they didn’t conceded too many goals, along with our keeper doing what he does best. ![]()
Overall the boys played a solid and fair game and each one of them should be proud of themselves. ![]()

What to say about these boys in 2025![]()
The U11s age group are blessed with numbers, and the Tigers were often seen as the weaker end of the sides involved ![]()
We had players leave, a turnover in coaching staff, tears at training and matches, fall outs, and every little bit of it has been worth it to see these boys play now![]()
They play without fear, with passion, with pride and with love for each other. They stick up for each other, they support one another and encourage rather than criticise.![]()
They listen, learn and understand the game more than ever, and to be honest for Ian and I, it's been a worthy journey![]()
Today we played scintillating football at times, seeing the ball shifted wide and whipped in for tap ins on a number of occasions. Seeing training ground on a Sunday is what we as coaches can only pray for. Today it came together.![]()
We have a lot of respect for our opponents, always have, today wasn't a poke at them, it was a big round of applause for hard work and dedication in a game where they showed everything we ask for the whole game![]()
A brace a piece for Charlie and Opposition MOM, Isaac were followed by goals from Joshua, Hawk, Ben and Reuben, with 3 assists a piece for Charlie and Hawk and a nice pair of assists for Coaches MOM, Parker![]()
A game where anyone could have won MOM it was nice to see one of the defenders claim one, shining in a game where we needed to defend an awful lot![]()
Fair play to keepers on both sides today, all 3 made wonderful saves in an end to end game![]()
If you're stuck for something to do on a Sunday morning, head down and take in a game at any of the teams at Methley and see why we appreciate being able to play for such a great club![]()

Today we hosted Amaranth Purple in our last game before the Christmas break and before the divisions get re-jigged.![]()
What a great game to finish part 1 of the season. A very close fought match that swung back and forth for the full 50 minutes. Amaranth keeper pulling off some absolute worldly saves in the first 12.5 minutes. Some great passing phases from both sides, great skills on show, and some nicely taken goals.![]()
Vipers had Seb playing his first game for us, and he didn’t disappoint, earning praise from the opposition. A nervous first 5 minutes soon disappeared and then he found his feet. Getting stuck in with some strong tackles, and even getting on some little runs from right back.![]()
Goals today came from Tomas.![]()
Players of the Match:![]()
Coaches went to Cristian, who was a wall at the back, covering the full width getting in blocks and clearances.![]()
Opposition went to Seb, who had a cracking start to life on the pitch with Vipers.![]()

❤️ In Loving Memory of Josh Pick ❤️![]()
It is with great sadness that Methley United AFC shares the passing of former player Josh Picky, known and loved by so many as “Picky”.![]()
Josh proudly represented Methley United for six years, giving his all every time he pulled on the shirt. He was a hugely popular character around the club, always smiling, always positive, and always there for his teammates. Josh’s connection to the club ran deep — his dad, Gary, devoted many years as a coach, giving his time and passion to Methley United and supporting countless players along the way.![]()
Away from Methley, Josh was a massive Leeds United fan. He held a season ticket at Elland Road with his dad and travelled the country following the Whites, something he absolutely loved. Football was a huge part of Josh’s life, and those memories will forever be treasured.![]()
Josh was loved by so many, and his loss will be felt deeply across our club and wider football family. As a club, we have offered our full support to Gary and the entire family during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts are with them all.![]()
For those wishing to pay their respects, Josh’s funeral will take place at:![]()
📍 **Hughes Funeral Parlour**
York Road, LS9 9NT
🕥 **Saturday 20th December – 10:30am**![]()
The venue can accommodate around 100 people. If the chapel is full, the service will be live streamed to the Irish Centre opposite in the Davit Bar, so please head there rather than standing outside.![]()
A reception will be held at the Irish Centre following the service until 5pm, where friends, family, and teammates can come together to remember Josh and celebrate his life.![]()
Rest easy, Picky 💙🤍💛
You will always be part of Methley United.![]()

Methley Whites u10s hosted Horsforth st Margaret's this morning in what is always a tough game. We started slowly but the second half was much better with more passing, movement and control and 2 very well taken goals from Thomas. A couple of special mentions to Alex who did very well when asked to play a bit further forward in midfield, Riley for some fantastic saves (I heard the opposition coaches mention them on several occasions) and directing the defence in front of him and Zach for dropping back into defence to help the team out. Parents were asked to decide the captain and player of the match this week with Thomas being elected captain for his vocal encouragement and goals and player of the match to Jesse for his overall play, tackles and passing. A break now to enjoy the festive period after the boys enjoy their Christmas party next week

Methley U15 Girls 4-5 Holbeck (Away)![]()
On a pitch made famous by ‘Damned United’ and living up to every bit of its reputation, Methley U15 Girls produced a performance full of grit, quality and heart in a breathless 4-5 away victory at Holbeck.![]()
A late kick-off and a heavy, unforgiving surface meant Methley took a good 15–20 minutes to find their feet. Holbeck capitalised early, racing into a 2–0 lead as Methley adjusted to the tough terrain and uneven bounce. But once the girls settled, the response was outstanding.![]()
Digging deep and beginning to play some lovely football, Methley found their spark when Leila showed great composure to get the girls back in the game with a beautiful touch and finish. Momentum swung, and the introduction of Eva proved inspired — the super sub making an immediate impact by bringing Methley level at 2–2.![]()
Just before half-time, all the hard work paid off. Pressure built, belief grew, and Pippa unleashed an absolute screamer to put Methley ahead 2-3 at the break — a goal worthy of any pitch, legendary or not.![]()
The second half saw Methley playing with the wind and sun at their backs, and they took full advantage. Strong midfield performances from Ailie and Kadi ensured Methley stayed on top, controlling the tempo and winning crucial battles. Esmae was a powerhouse throughout, driving the team forward and refusing to let standards drop. Despite this Holbeck managed to pull one back bringing it level again. ![]()
Methley extended their lead with another poke in the corner from Pippa after a Lucy P drove her assist from one side of the pitch to the other taking it to 3-4 and looking in control. Methley found the much needed cushion from Eva on a scrappy tap into the net pressing the keeper pushing the score to 3-5. However, this was never going to be a straightforward afternoon. The final minutes were pure nail-biting drama. Wave after wave of pressure tested Methley’s resolve, Holbeck rallied late, throwing everything forward and capitalising on a couple of tense moments to claw their way back to 4-5 but the girls showed incredible determination, organisation and togetherness to see the game out. Every tackle, block and clearance was celebrated as the final whistle finally blew.![]()
A huge away performance full of character, quality and resilience — and one that will live long in the memory. On a pitch steeped in football history, Methley U15 Girls wrote a dramatic chapter of their own. ❤️ 🖤 ⚽

⚽ A True Grassroots Story ⚽![]()
On a cold early December morning, Methley U10 Whites arrived for their fixture against Horsforth Juniors.![]()
On arrival, it became clear that Horsforth were short of players, with only six available. With a squad of ten themselves, the Methley coaches asked if anyone would be willing to help the opposition out. Without hesitation, Aaron stepped forward.![]()
Aaron started the first half in goal, pulling off some fantastic saves. In the second half, he was asked to play outfield. What the Methley coaches didn’t realise at the time was that a little “bribery and corruption” was going on behind the scenes… Aaron had been promised a Mars bar if he managed to score against his own team!![]()
The game itself was a great contest, played in exactly the right spirit. Much to Methley’s dismay, Aaron went on to score a hat-trick.![]()
After the final whistle, Aaron thanked the Horsforth players and coaches for letting him play and headed home.![]()
This morning, three Mars bars arrived through the letterbox along with a note — proof that the Horsforth manager kept his word.![]()
A brilliant example of what grassroots football is really about: making sure kids get to play, helping each other out, and supporting fellow coaches who are trying to do the same. Winning at grassroots isn’t just about the scoreline — it’s about moments like this. 👏⚽![]()

The Titans faced a tough challenge this morning against a very strong Wakefield Athletic side, but they rose to the occasion brilliantly. Unfazed by their opponents’ reputation, the boys set the tone early with aggressive tackling and an energetic high press.![]()
Sonny opened the scoring after winning the ball high up the pitch, finishing confidently to put the Titans ahead. Moments later, he stunned everyone with a thunderbolt from the halfway line, piling the pressure onto the opposition and giving the Titans real momentum.![]()
At the back, Tobias was a rock—reading the game superbly and clearing everything that came his way. Harry worked tirelessly in midfield, relentless in his challenges and extremely unlucky to see a fantastic effort crash off the post.![]()
Driving runs from Oscar and Riley kept the Titans pushing forward and creating dangerous opportunities. Wakefield responded with threats of their own, and the lads defended doggedly throughout what became a hard-fought and competitive contest.![]()
